Material Guide

Material Guide – The Florist Wrap Shop

What does "mic" mean?

Mic = micron (µm) — a unit of thickness. 1 micron = 0.001 mm. The higher the number, the thicker and stronger the film. You'll see this on all our film and plastic products.

20–25 mic
Thin and lightweight — good for wrapping single stems or small bouquets where a light, delicate finish is enough
30–35 mic
The everyday standard — strong enough to wrap and protect a full bouquet, easy to fold and seal. Most popular choice for florists
40–50 mic
Thick and sturdy — best for large or heavy bouquets, roll dispensers, and packaging that needs extra strength during transport

What does "gsm" mean?

GSM = grams per square metre — a measure of paper weight. The higher the gsm, the thicker and more substantial the paper feels. Found on all our paper sheets and eco-specialty papers.

40–50 gsm
Light and soft — easy to fold and layer around flowers. Good for a loose, relaxed wrap style
55–70 gsm
The everyday standard for bouquet sheets — holds its shape well, wraps neatly around stems, easy to work with
80–100+ gsm
Thick and structured — feels premium, holds its shape firmly. Best for gift wrapping and presentation bags

Film & plastic materials

FILM

BOPP

Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene

The most widely used film in floral packaging. BOPP is a thin, flexible polypropylene film that wraps beautifully around bouquets — water-resistant, easy to cut, and available in clear (classic, shows off the flowers) or matt/frosted (modern, premium feel). 35 mic BOPP is the everyday industry standard. Available as rolls, sleeves, sheets, prefolds and skirts.

RBOPP

Recycled BOPP — 70–90% post-consumer recycled plastic

The same great BOPP film, made from post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR). Up to 90% of the material is reclaimed and reprocessed. A direct, like-for-like swap — no change to how you work, far lower environmental impact. Available as rolls, sleeves, sheets, prefolds and skirts.

CPP

Cast Polypropylene

Softer and more flexible than BOPP. CPP wraps naturally and has a silky feel. Because it's cast (not stretched), it conforms gently around bouquets without the stiffness of BOPP — good for a softer, flowing wrap. Available as sleeves and rolls.

HDPE

High-Density Polyethylene

A strong, slightly waxy plastic with a characteristic frosted appearance and a soft crinkle sound. Highly waterproof — excellent for vase bags and transport where flowers come into contact with water. The crinkle texture also adds a decorative tactile effect.

Waterproof Strong Recyclable — symbol #2
What does #2 mean? The number 2 inside the recycling triangle is a plastic type code — HDPE is one of the most widely accepted plastics in household recycling across Europe. Customers can put it in their normal recycling bin at home.
